SANTA BARBARA TRAVEL BUREAU ENEWS

From the desk of David de L'Arbre, C.O.O.

AIRLINE UPDATE: On February 12 United's mechanics voted to strike on February 20 at 12:01am CST if a new contract was not agreed upon. According to an article in the LA Times, if United and its mechanics cannot reach an agreement by then, a strike could last for days before the government would be able to intervene. The full text of that article is in the following URL:

As a precaution, Santa Barbara Travel Bureau is reviewing all reservations for travel during the period of February 20 through February 22 and will be booking alternate flights on other carriers in the event that United's mechanics strike. We are also assembling a "strike team" who will be available for extended office hours beginning early morning February 20 to reaccomodate any displaced travelers. We will continue to monitor this situation closely and will provide email updates as new information becomes available.

We strongly urge travelers to check with their Santa Barbara Travel Bureau travel consultant on February 19 for flight reconfirmation and alternate routing options. Because of the potential for large numbers of affected itineraries we may not be able to contact every traveler to advise of new schedules.

United is working hard to reach an agreement with its union and is hopeful that a framework for future negotiations can be reached before the strike deadline. The attachment to this email is a press release we received yesterday outlining United's position.
